Load Reduction on a Clipper Liberty Wind Turbine with Linear Parameter-Varying Individual Blade-Pitch Control
نویسندگان
چکیده
The increasing size of modern wind turbines also increases the structural loads caused by effects such as turbulence or asymmetries in the inflowing wind field. Consequently, the use of advanced control algorithms for active load reduction has become a relevant part of current wind turbine control systems. In this article, an individual blade-pitch control law is designed using multivariable linear parameter-varying control techniques. It reduces the structural loads both on the rotating and non-rotating parts of the turbine. Classical individual blade-pitch control strategies rely on single control loops with low bandwidth. The proposed approach makes it possible to use a higher bandwidth since it accounts for coupling at higher frequencies. A controller is designed for the utility-scale 2.5 MW Liberty research turbine operated by the University of Minnesota. Stability and performance are verified using the high-fidelity nonlinear simulation and baseline controllers that were directly obtained from the manufacturer. متن کاملIndividual blade pitch for yaw control
Individual pitch control (IPC) for reducing blade loads has been investigated and proven successful in recent literature. For IPC, the multi-blade co-ordinate (MBC) transformation is used to process the blade load signals from the rotating to a stationary frame of reference. In the stationary frame of reference, the yaw error of a turbine can be appended to generate IPC actions that are able to...
متن کاملComputationally Inexpensive Approach for Pitch Control of Offshore Wind Turbine on Barge Floating Platform
Offshore floating wind turbine (OFWT) has gained increasing attention during the past decade because of the offshore high-quality wind power and complex load environment. The control system is a tradeoff between power tracking and fatigue load reduction in the above-rated wind speed area. In allusion to the external disturbances and uncertain system parameters of OFWT due to the proximity to lo...

In this study, an unsteady aerodynamic simulation is performed to realize the influences of platform surge motion on the aerodynamic performance of a high capacity offshore floating wind turbine. A dynamic model with pitch angle control system is utilized to propose a more realistic model of wind turbine and also achieve the rated condition of the rotor. The transient effect of platform surge m...

As the wind turbine size has been increasing and their mechanical components are built lighter, the reduction of the structural loads becomes a very important task of wind turbine control in addition to maximum wind power capture. In this paper, we present a separate set of collective and individual pitch control algorithms. Both pitch control algorithms use the LQR control technique with integ...
